Decision Will Not Be Revisited
2020-08-12 ยท Kevin Warren, Commissioner, Big Ten Conference (Big Ten)
In an open letter to the Big Ten community following massive backlash, Warren declared the postponement decision would not be reconsidered - a position he reversed five weeks later.
What he said
The vote by the Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors (COP/C) was overwhelmingly in support of postponing fall sports and will not be revisited.
The decision was thorough and deliberate, based on sound judgment and medical advice. We understand the disappointment, but the health and safety of our student-athletes must come first.
